Archie Gray agent discusses Leeds talent’s future amid recent Manchester City interest

The agent of Archie Gray has told The Athletic’s Phil Hay podcast that Leeds United is where he wants to be at the moment, despite interest from bigger clubs and the “continent” – with Manchester City reportedly one of those.

Gray, 17, has endured a frustrating season. Being a very constant member of the Leeds side during pre-season, the England U17 ace picked up an injury that saw has kept him out for much of the season – until the last few weeks.

There was hope that Gray would be the breakthrough talent of the Leeds side this season. Instead, he has managed just six outings for the club’s U21 side, two since returning from injury. But he remains an incredible, massive talent.

Jamie Redknapp recently said he is the best young midfielder he has seen in years, and will be a “future England star”. The Athletic have reported that Manchester City have shown interest in signing Gray from Elland Road.

Gray’s agent Hayden Evans has spoken on the future of Gray – who has signed a new deal until June 2025. He says that Gray wants to be at Leeds and there is no concern over his future given just how young the midfielder is.

“It’s really early for Archie, there’s no frustration, pressure that he’s not getting minutes in the first team. It is complimentary to be involved in the squad at that age, it is good that manager thinks of him,” agent Evans said.

“Training with the first team. Everything is on track. He’s committed his medium-future to Leeds, and there was a lot of interest from bigger clubs – and clubs on the continent. But Leeds is where he wants to be,” Evans continued.

It is very good news. Gray is still the future of this Leeds side and has the potential to become a regular for years and years at Elland Road. But, he has to get back to full fitness and push himself into the senior side this season.

There are still eight League games to play and Gray has sat on the bench in three of Javi Gracia’s seven League games in charge. There is a chance he could finally make his competitive debut for Leeds in the coming weeks.
