Another club enters running for Leeds outcast Willy Gnonto ahead of decisive couple of weeks

Italian outlet Calcio Atalanta claim Europa League side Atalanta have joined the race to sign Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto before the end of the summer window – with Gnonto still expected to go.

Gnonto, 19, has refused to play for Leeds for for the last three games. Fans are angry with the Italian, and while Leeds continue to reject offers from Everton – it is hard to see how the situation repairs itself.

Leeds have rejected bids for Gnonto from Everton. Everton remain interested with Demarai Gray now set to move to Saudi Arabia. They have of course, already signed Jack Harrison on loan from Elland Road.

However, it seems like Everton might not be the only club interested and a return to the Premier League might not actually be on the cards. Atalanta want him. They have money, after selling Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish talent has joined Manchester United for a fee north of £70m. They have replaced him with Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham, but for less than £30m. So, they have money still to play with.

If Atalanta have the cash to spend that is necessary to sign Gnonto, then great. They have sold players like Merih Demiral, Jeremie Boga, Matteo Pessina, Joakim Maehle, raking in a total fee of around £60m.

So, Atalanta have money to spend. Leeds fans would much rather Gnonto moved out of England, so we do not have to play him in the future – and certainly, over a move to Everton. A rival in recent seasons.

But most importantly, Leeds need a fee for Gnonto and if we can get in a decent total for the winger then great. But if he has to stay, fine. Angus Kinnear told LUFC Trust he is a player to build around.
