Angus Kinnear has told The Square Ball podcast that he thinks Leeds United may fail to gain promotion this season – but is hopeful the club can do so in the next two seasons. We currently sit in 15th place.
But after five games, in a 46-game season, nothing is even close to being set in concrete right now. Only until the new year, will the league start to take shape and even then, big changes can take place.
Leeds do have probably their best chance of promotion this season, given the parachute payments. But Kinnear also explains that the reason Financial Fairplay rules are so tight – is to stop PP being spent.
Kinnear discussed when he thinks Leeds will get back into the Premier League. Leeds are among the clubs expected to fight for promotion. Kinnear thinks we can gain promotion in the next two years.
“I’m really excited about the season. I think it is going to be nerve-wracking as it always is. I couldn’t be more excited about working with Daniel, and the players we’ve signed,” Kinnear discussed this week.
“When we do get promoted, which I think will happen over the next two years, the foundation we have built over the last three/four years will not be lost,” the Leeds CEO added, on the Square Ball podcast.

In terms of the tumultuous state of the squad at the start of the summer, it does seem like Leeds have got rid of all the players that didn’t want to play for the club – and brought in very decent replacements.
Can we go up this season? Without a doubt. If, one of the left-back options we do have takes a hold of that position and lessens the need for a new signing. If Cree Summerville makes the 10 role his own.
There are weaknesses. But there are plenty of strengths all over the pitch. Cohesion is the name of the game and if Daniel Farke can get us gelled quickly – there’s nothing stopping us from gaining promotion.
