Angus Kinnear gives verdict on Jaidon Anthony, claims he can be better than £21m Leeds man

Angus Kinnear has told The Square Ball podcast that Leeds United have signed a player in Jaidon Anthony from Bournemouth, that can actually be better than the man he has replaced – Luis Sinisterra.

Anthony, 23, is a player that has impressed in England’s second tier – having a hand in 15 goals in 50 games. He has promotion from the Championship on his CV. He started well at The Vitality this term.

He had started two of Bournemouth’s first three games, before moving to Elland Road. It is a move that sees Sinisterra go to Bournemouth, returning to the Premier League in the final minutes of the window.

Leeds CEO Kinnear spoke about Sinisterra and Anthony swapping clubs. He made it clear the Colombian had to go and wanted to go. He also says Anthony was a target at the start of the window, for Leeds.

“He was on our target list from right at the start of the window, but he seemed central to Bournemouth’s plans. We’d given up. He came together on the final day. Jaidon really wants to be here, he’s excited.

“We lost a player who didn’t want to be here at all. It is frustrating because right at the last moment we had a player like Luis who we wanted to keep. He was willing to do anything. We had to accept that.

“We had to make sure we brought in a player who wanted to be here and we think is an adequate replacement and if you take his availability into account, potentially a better replacement,” Kinnear said.

Kinnear says Anthony can be better than Sinisterra at Leeds

What Anthony has, that Sinisterra does not, is durability. The physical ability to go and play regularly in England. His body can cope with the intensity. Anthony knows what the Championship is all about.

He knows how to get out of it. He is a player that can help Leeds get out of this division. But, it will be interesting to see who Daniel Farke prefers on the wingers – Dan James, Willy Gnonto or Anthony.

Cree Summerville looks like he will move into the middle of the attacking midfield positions – while Georgie Rutter could go out wide. Ian Poveda remains at the club as back-up after a good pre-season.
