‘Amazed’: Ben Parker says Leeds player no longer fills him with ‘confidence’ when he’s on the pitch

Ben Parker has told LS11 on Thursday that Patrick Bamford no longer fills with him confidence when he is on the pitch, and is amazed there was no contingency plan for penalties with Joel Piroe subbed off.

Plenty has already been discussed on Bamford’s dreadful penalty at the Bet365 Stadium. A woeful shot, that he blasted over the bar. Bamford has now missed five of his last 10, failing to score in his last three.

Bamford actually won the penalty after a lovely move involving, unsurprisingly, Georginio Rutter. It was a superb move and Bamford used all of his experience to draw the foul from Stoke captain Ben Pearson.

Instantly, he took charge – picking the ball up. Confidence, flowing. With Piroe subbed off for Bamford, it meant that there was no designated taker. Bamford missed and then five minutes later, Stoke scored.

Parker declared himself stunned that there was no contingency plan in place when Piroe is not on the pitch. He also said that Bamford stepping up no longer fills with him confidence, and it proved as much.

“I’m amazed if we don’t have a contingency plan for penalties when Piroe is off. The staff should tell the players who is second, third in line. There’s no argument. It eradicates all that nonsense,” Parker said.

“Then there’s no story. With a stat of missing five in 10, one in two, you’re not sat there watching it with confidence. I do feel for Pat. He’s well-liked in the changing room but moments like that cost you.”

A game that if Leeds are going to get promoted, then we need to grind these results out. It makes our comeback against Norwich less meaningful. Poor result, especially given a win was in Bamford’s grasp.

Leeds are not going to win every game. There are going to be more losses throughout. The Leeds side, who are mostly very young, need to learn from this quickly. A better side does not mean we win games.

We need to earn it, prove we are the better side – like we have done against the likes of Watford, and Norwich in the second half. For Bamford, well he can no longer take a penalty. A real shame for him.
