Ally McCoist has told TalkSPORT in a clip posted on Twitter that Steven Gerrard should avoid a move to Leeds this summer and instead go abroad to reignite his managerial reputation – disagreeing with Martin Keown on Gerrard.
Gerrard, 43, has been out of work since Aston Villa decided to part company with the Anfield icon. Gerrard is still somewhat new to management, having spent little over three years at Rangers before his move to the Midlands.
Football Transfers claim Gerrard and Leeds have held talks over a possible move to Elland Road. Leeds are on the horizon of a massive summer, in which the club are expected to complete a takeover – with the 49ers closing in.
A replacement for Victor Orta, a new manager and a massive turnover of players will also occur over the next two months. McCoist has told TalkSPORT that he does not believe a move to Elland Road would be good for Gerrard.
“I am not sure,” McCoist said, when asked if Gerrard should move to Leeds United. “And I am not sure, believe it or not, Leeds would be the best choice for Steven Gerrard. I actually think – and I’ve said it about Frank Lampard.
“I would like to see Steven and Frank go abroad. Go to France or Spain. Just somewhere different. I know it didn’t work out for Scott Parker, but at least he’s tried it. You get an opportunity to learn another language, style of play.”

It comes after Martin Keown claimed shortly after McCoist that Gerrard would be a good fit for Leeds. So, would Gerrard be a good move for Leeds? Realistically, it is the best Gerrard can hope for – a massive Championship club.
He is not going to get another Premier League job unless he can prove himself in the Championship. Or, as McCoist says, go abroad to a French club, or a Spanish club, or even Italy – and having a good spell. It is up to Gerrard.
