Ally McCoist declared himself impressed by Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville during his role as co-commentator on BT Sport on Tuesday – as the Dutch star came off the bench during the 1-1 draw with Leicester.

Summerville, 21, came off the bench in the first half of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester, after goalscorer Luis Sinisterra picked up an injury. The pocket-sized winger got up and down the left flank for the hour he played.

Indeed, he was seen more in the defensive third, making a couple of vital tackles and interceptions. Including one impressive slide tackle moments after coming on, and then an important header that looped to Illan Meslier.

Summerville was also potent in the final third and when he did get the chance to run at the Leicester defence, he earned his side a free-kick – with Youri Tielemans booked on 65 minutes. McCoist gave his verdict on Summerville.

“I like the look of Summerville. Really positive, that’s the first time he’s had the chance to go at the Leicester defence. He’s been excellent defensively and there, he wins his side a free-kick,” McCoist said during commentary.

Summerville clearly played like he had a point to prove to Javi Gracia. While all the furore was for Willy Gnonto to start, £1.3m signing Summerville had reason to find himself hard done by for not starting – after his Fulham display.

But he came on and played for an hour and certainly put a decent shift in. Not only in Leicester’s defensive third, but in his own, too. Ahead of Bournemouth, Gracia may have to replace Sinisterra – and Summerville is surely his pick.

Leeds fans will be hopeful that Gracia can also find a place for Gnonto who remained an unused substitute on the night against Leicester. But, it might be that Gracia continues with Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford in the Leeds attack.
