There wasn’t much to complain about for Leeds United fans after Wednesday’s comfortable win over Norwich City but Aidy White did have one point of concern.
Leeds United have kicked off another winning streak after they followed up the weekend’s dominant win over Sheffield Wednesday by cruising to a 2-0 victory over Norwich City.
Daniel Farke’s side went ahead with just 31 seconds on the clock when Dan James teed up Manor Solomon to slot home the quickest Championship goal this season.
The two players swapped roles in the second half when James volleyed in Solomon’s cross and that’s all Leeds needed for the three points, with Norwich not even getting a shot on target.
However, Aidy White feels the match was a chance for Leeds to bolster their goal difference and they should have done ‘more’ in front of goal.
White wanted Leeds to bolster goal difference vs Norwich City
It’s a four-horse race at the top of the Championship table and it looks like it’s going to go down to the wire.
Leeds are the leaders of the pack but Sheffield United are breathing down their necks just a point behind, with Burnley three points off and Sunderland five.
The lead is only slender and just one slip up could let one of their competitors into top spot and, with it being so tight, goal difference could be a major factor come May.
As a result, White wanted to see Leeds press their dominant position further to score even more against Norwich.
He told the BBC with a few minutes remaining in the match: “Since we got that second goal the game’s gone a little flat.
“It’s good we’ve got the clean sheet, so far, but I think we need to do more to improve our goal difference and get further ahead of Sheffield United in the league table.”
However, he did pick out James and Jayden Bogle specifically for praise. He added: “The link up play between Daniel James and Jayden Bogle on the right side has been really good since the start of the second half.
“They’re creating stuff.”
Leeds have a great goal difference already
While you can never rest on your laurels and White will want his club to do everything they can to ensure promotion, if not the title, is earned this season he doesn’t have much to worry about on the goal difference front.
Leeds are in a commanding position with their +34 difference, which is by far the best in the Championship.
The Blades are 12 goals away from just matching them on +22, while Burnley are only up to +27 after beating a hapless Plymouth 5-0 on Wednesday, even if their defensive record is incredible.
Sunderland are on +18 with their leaky backline counteracting their prowess in attack, though no team has scored more than Leeds’ 53 goals.
If the season does come down to goal difference, it will likely be in Leeds’ favour.
