Adam Pope has told BBC Sport’s Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast that for all of the praise that Georginio Rutter is earning for Leeds United this season – he believes his shooting needs work.
Rutter, 21, has been sensational for Leeds this season. Leading the line for Daniel Farke’s side, the club-record signing has been immense up top. He scored the winner against Leicester at the King Power.
A huge 1-0 win, reacting first to Mads Hermansen’s save from a Sam Byram corner. Rutter now has three goals this season, the Frenchman often dropping in to allow other Leeds players to run beyond.
Indeed, his form could be seen as the reason for Cree Summerville, Dan James and even Joel Piroe’s excellent start to 2023-24. But, there could be a criticism in that Rutter should have score more goals.
Pope thinks his shooting needs work, after watching him fail to hit the target a few times: “Georginio had some shots but they were rubbish, but no-one’s talking about those because of his all-round play.
“Is that an issue for Rutter? Technically he doesn’t shoot well, at times. Great with the goal, I know, I get that, his first for a while, but that is an issue for me. He drags the shots,” Pope added, on his podcast.

Rutter has missed a number of chances this season. It is right that players, especially in this modern day and age, needs to look to improve and best to do so, when things are going well. Rutter needs to score.
He cannot go through the entire season with say, less than 10 goals. He is on course for around a total of that figure, if he does not step it up. Of course, he is probably our best player – given his creativity.
His ability in transition, his ability to lose his marker, his assists. Rutter has been near-perfect. But if he could just improve his shooting and maybe bump his expected goals from 10, to 15-20. Big difference.
