The Mail claim The 49ers are ready to spend £200m to expand Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium from the best part of 40,000 fans, to a huge 55,000 – largely because Tottenham earn £5m a matchday, while we rake in just £1m.
The Elland Road stadium has been in need of redevelopment for some time. Work and plans put in place to make Leeds’ home ground a bigger place, had been shelved by Andrea Radrizzani. But now, the 49ers have changed that.
They have seen that Spurs rake in a huge £5m every matchday at their new ground. Leeds only bring in a £1m when playing at home. That needs to change to take Leeds into a more, self-sustainable future. The 49ers are aware.
Plans have been re-introduced, consultants working, plans drawn up. Leeds have 24,000 season ticket holders and another 20,000 waiting in reserve. So, a new stadium with 55,000 seats is still mostly be those with a season ticket.

The report states that plans are back on and The 49ers have given those in charge of redeveloping Elland Road a green light, even if the report claims it could cost us a fee of £200m. But the 49ers are doing what is required.
£5m Tottenham match fee has convinced 49ers to expand Elland Road
For a club that is drawing in numbers of shirt sales among the best in the country – The Mail say 330,000 are expected which is among the top six – Leeds should be right up there in terms of bringing in matchday revenue.
Of course, Spurs are top of the tree given their stadium, ticket prices and stadium. But Leeds should be a whole lot closer than £4m – or 80% behind. If Leeds can draw that figure close to the £3m mark, it will be really noticeable.
