Jason Wilcox played more than 100 games for Leeds United during his playing career but he could now join Manchester United – and report to sporting director Dan Ashworth, if he is appointed.
Wilcox, 52, enjoyed a very solid career – winning the Premier League with Blackburn and clocking up 105 games for Leeds, as well as three England caps. Now, he is impressing as a director of football.
He started out at Manchester City, spending six years as the club’s academy director. He then joined Southampton last summer, as our promotion rivals’ sporting director. He is highly regarded in his role.
So much so, that The Athletic report he could join rivals Manchester United from Southampton. The Premier League giants are working on a deal – and are doing so to land Dan Ashworth from Newcastle.
The report claims that Manchester United want to appoint Ashworth as the club’s sporting director – with Ashworth impressing in roles at England, Brighton and now Newcastle. The Toon will want to keep.

Manchester United eyeing former Leeds man Jason Wilcox
But, the lure of Old Trafford – to some anyway – is hard to turn down. Manchester United want Ashworth as the main man, but want to surround him with people with a proven record in this area of the game.
Indeed, Manchester United are now working on a deal to land Wilcox from Southampton – a man that played for Leeds for five years between 1999 and 2004, leaving when the club were finally relegated.
In one way, it would be a blow to see a player that played more than 100 games for Leeds got to them – but also, it would come as a blow for Southampton, our closest rival in terms of league position.
