Back in February, Leeds United were looking for a new manager to replace boss Jesse Marsch and reports said Alfred Schreuder was set to take over – and now, Schreuder has left UAE side Al-Ain.
Schreuder, 51, was said to be in the stands as Michael Skubala took charge of a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United. iNews said he was set to take over from Marsch, but fan reaction changed that.
It is believed that the overriding feeling from Leeds fans – which was a hugely negative one – saw the ex-Ajax man lose any chance of landing the Leeds job. Javi Gracia came in and we all know how that went.
Schreuder remained out of work until May, joining United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain. He has since done well in the role, winning 13 of 15 games. A decision made, due to a lack of alignment within the club.

Schreuder has enjoyed a very solid career in the world of management. But, he has not lasted more than 50 games in one role, strangely. 16 wins in 45 at Twente, then 13 in 33 at Hoffenheim. Decent efforts.
Then, at Brugge he won 15 of 21 and a Belgian League title in 2021-22. At Ajax, 12 wins in 21. Al-Ain saw him get 13 in 15 – but clearly, there is an issue as to why Schreuder cannot last at a club for a long time.
Leeds meanwhile, seem to have finally got the choice of manager right in the form of Daniel Farke. For the first time since Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds have a man they can trust and get behind. A real leader.
