So, we are eight games in to the Championship campaign and already, Archie Gray has starred for Leeds United. Proving he is worthy of wonderkid status. And naturally, there is talk of Premier League interest.
Gray, 17, was expected to make a breakthrough into the senior side last season. Jesse Marsch used him regularly in Australia during the pre-season tour of 2022. But, he picked up injuries throughout 22-23.
With Leeds in a relegation battle, it was no time to throw him in at the deep end. Instead, relegation has suited Gray. It has given him the pathway into this Leeds side. He has started nine of our 10 matches.

Indeed, he was rested on Saturday in the 3-0 win over Watford, given a few minutes at the end. Likely, he returns to the starting line-up against Southampton this weekend. What a start to his Leeds career.
His ability to mix it and come out physically better against players 10 or 15 years older is astonishing. His passing, transitional play, combative style and relationship with Ethan Ampadu has been incredible.
Leeds must tie Archie Gray down amid Premier League interest
Jermaine Beckford said he has been “phenomenal”. Little surprise then, that Alan Nixon has reported that Crystal Palace want Gray. There is no doubt he will become a Premier League player at some point.
But what will be worrying for Leeds, is that his contract is due to expire in 2025. Little over 18 months. It may include an extension – but forget that. Leeds need to tie Gray down to an entire new contract.
Hand him a deal that sees him remain at Leeds until 2027 or beyond. Build this team around him and extend his legacy that his family set. We must hand him a new deal before Premier League clubs move.
