Leeds United chief Paraag Marathe is showing some promising early intent in his early days as majority shareholder.

According to the Daily Mail, Marathe has had phone calls with several senior Leeds players to inform them of San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ big plans for the club.

49ers officially completed their takeover of the Whites late last week and have already got to work, appointing Nick Hammond as an interim football advisor, with a new manager set to follow in the coming days.

Following their investment into the club, 49ers will be keen to build a squad ready for an immediate return to the Premier League and Marathe is making all the right early noises in doing so.

Marathe showing intent already after Leeds buyout

There still remains an element of uncertainty surrounding Leeds this summer with a host of players expected to depart following last month’s relegation.

However, Marathe’s phone calls with players could encourage some of them to stay on for at least one more season in order to get Leeds back in the Premier League.

If Leeds are able to keep the likes of Tyler Adams, Luis Sinisterra, Wilfried Gnonto and co, they would certainly be among the hot favourites for promotion come August.

And Marathe’s early ground work could be key in doing exactly that, as a clear long-term vision would give players more of a reason to want to stick around.

That said, they must continue this sort of momentum throughout the entirety of the summer, as ultimately several signings are going to have to be made.

The early noises from Marathe are positive, so let’s hope for more of the same.
