Bristol Rovers are on the lookout for a new manager and Karl Robinson has emerged as a strong favourite to take over a few months after leaving Leeds United – following Joey Barton’s sacking.
Barton, 41, had actually impressed as Bristol Rovers manager. He took over in February 2021, and in 2021-22 – he guided Rovers to promotion. The following season in League One, he finished in 17th.
In late October, a 1-1 draw with Stevenage proved to be the final straw with one win in five. Barton was sacked, with Rovers winning their two games since. A 2-1 league win over Northampton Town followed.
Then, an FA Cup victory over Whitby – 7-2. Rovers have an interim team in charge, including veteran Glenn Whelan and Andy Mangan. But they remain on the lookout for a new gaffer, to replace Barton.
Mirror reporter Darren Witcoop claims Robinson is emerging as a contender to take over. Robinson of course, was Sam Allardyce’s assistant for our final four games of last season. He rejected Bradford.

It would be a solid move for Robinson, who as Witcoop reports, does not want to manage at a level lower than League One. More than fair, given his experience at this level. Robinson is an excellent manager.
But he just needs to find himself a new home and settle. Rovers are clearly willing to give their managers times, give Barton managed well over 100 matches at the Midlands club. Robinson is a contender, then.
