Rene Maric is set for German champions Bayern Munich more than six months after leaving Leeds United where he worked as assistant to Jesse Marsch – despite being linked with Rapid Vienna.
Maric, 31, joined Leeds in the summer of 2022 – following Marsch to Leeds after the American kept Leeds in the Premier League. He boasted an impressive CV after stints at Dortmund and Gladbach.
But Maric and Marsch could not get things right at Leeds and he left Elland Road upon the sacking of Marsch in February. After his exit, Maric hinted at disharmony – saying he was unable to insert his ideas.
Well-liked during his time at Leeds and since returning to Elland Road as a fan, it has taken until now for Maric to get himself a job. The Austrian Kurier said he was in line for the Rapid Vienna manager’s job.
He was under consideration for the Austrian job, a return to his home country. But, he’s set for a role under Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich – though it is unclear to what capacity he will be working.

Of course, Maric was in the dugout when Leeds smashed Tuchel’s Chelsea 3-0 at Elland Road. Maybe, a result that left a lasting impression on Tuchel – who has since impressed as manager of the Germans.
Maric is now on his way to Bayern, finally returning to the coaching world as he continues to build an incredibly impressive CV without actually managing a team himself. At 31, though, his time will come.
A move to Bayern will see him work with England captain Harry Kane, among others. Marsch of course, remains without a job despite being linked with Southampton and Leicester at the end of last term.
