Italian outlet Il Romanista claim that Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen will remain at Roma in the January window, despite struggling in Italy – and being left out of the Europa League squad.

Kristensen endured a difficult first season at Leeds. It all looked so promising – Jesse Marsch’s second signing for £10m, reuniting with the Denmark star having managed him at Salzburg. Luke Ayling’s heir.

He played 30 times for Leeds last season but struggled to hold down a position in the side – with the man he was supposed to replace, Ayling, remaining first choice for the majority of the 22-23 season.

Kristensen was one of eight senior players to use the relegation loan clause to leave in the summer. He joined another of those eight, in Diego Llorente, on loan at Roma. But things have not gone to plan.

Indeed, one of the reasons Kristensen will have joined Roma – despite the presence of two other right-backs in Rick Karsdorp and Zeki Celik – is because the Italian giants are currently in the Europa League.

Kristensen is a good player. But, he failed at Leeds and judging by his loan at Roma, he is not doing much better. Celik and Karsdorp were preferred for the Europa League squad – meaning, third choice.

He has been much more regular in the league. He has started six of 11 Serie A games, coming on as a sub in four others. But, he has started only one of Roma’s last five league games. His form is below par.
