Kai Wagner is a name that will be memorable to Leeds United fans. A player that has been linked with the club in recent windows as he continues to shine in the MLS – and now, an update on the German.
Wagner, 26, has been superb since moving to America. He is set to finish a fourth season with current side Philadelphia Union, where he has clocked up a huge 165 appearances – having a hand in 36 goals.
Seven goals, 29 assists. This MLS season, with five games left, Wagner has enjoyed his best season – 11 goal involvements. But his contract is set to expire on December 31, and he wants to return to Europe.
That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that Leeds, West Ham and Brentford were among the clubs showing interest in 2022. He also says English, German, Italian and French clubs want him.

Leeds of course, still need a left-back. Sam Byram has been brought back to the club after seven and a half years away from Elland Road. But he is still a right-footed defender, playing slightly out of position.
Junior Firpo continues to work his way back to fitness but one would imagine that is a club from Spain comes calling – he will jump at the chance to return. It is unclear if Daniel Farke will want to use him.
Leeds did try to sign a left-back in the summer – Luke Thomas joining Sheffield United on loan from Leicester. Charlie Taylor has remained at Burnley. So, Leeds want a left-back and Wagner is admired.
Now, with Di Marzio reporting he is keen on a return to Europe and will leave Union on a free – Leeds could well reignite their interest in the defender. One to keep an eye on over the next few months.
