Sky Germany claim Alexander Nubel has taken a pay cut to join Stuttgart on loan from Bayern Munich, snubbing a permanent move to Leeds United this summer – with the German goalkeeper not keen on moving to the second tier.
Nubel, 26, returned to Bayern this summer after two years with Monaco. Last season, he played a huge 48 times – keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding 75 goals. Leeds wanted to bring him to Elland Road, with a Bayern exit likely.
German newspaper Bild say Leeds are willing to spend a fee of £8.7m to sign him permanently. With Leeds wanting a permanent move, Bayern were open to a sale. But Nubel always wanted Stuttgart – despite it only being a loan.
The latest report states that a loan to Stuttgart is now done. He is off to the Bundesliga club on loan from Bayern. Paid around £4.9m a year at Bayern, or £94,000 a week – Sky Germany say he has taken a pay cut to join Stuttgart.
They say that Nubel will only be paid £1.7m a year while on loan with Stuttgart, less than half – little over £33,000 a week. He has chosen to accept a lower offer from Stuttgart, while saving Bayern wages, instead of joining Leeds.

It was always unlikely. There is a growing feeling that Leeds might not need a new goalkeeper. Illan Meslier remains a Leeds player and although it was expected he would go, the Frenchman is struggling to generate any interest.
The ex-Lorient man endured a dismal 2022-23 campaign, and was dropped for the last four Premier League games under Sam Allardyce. Nubel would have been a solid replacement but it might be that Meslier ends up staying put.
