Greek outlet Sportime claim Leeds United have agreed personal terms with AZ Alkmaar and Greece player Pantelis Chatzidiakos, with the two sides locked in negotiations over a fee for the last 15 days. A fee is yet to be agreed.
Chatzidiakos, 26, has entered the last year of his AZ deal despite playing 52 times for the Eredivisie side last season – either as a right-back, or in the middle. They reached the Europa Conference League semis, losing to West Ham.
A player with 27 Greece caps, Chatzidiakos has played 207 times for AZ and is one of their main players. But with his contract coming to an end, AZ may have to sell. Leeds have come calling, in order to bring the Greek to Leeds.
Leeds and Chatzidiakos have agreed personal terms. But, Leeds and AZ are yet to agree a fee – though there is a confidence a deal can be reached. AZ want a fee between £2.6m and £3.5m. Leeds have offered £2.2m, so far.
The report states that a move to Elland Road for the Greek star is now ‘likely’. Leeds have made three signings this summer of course, in the form of Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow and Sam Byram. Next could now be Chatzidiakos.

Looks as though Leeds could be signing a defender sooner rather than later, then. Nat Phillips continues to be strongly linked with a move from Liverpool, but Liam Cooper’s injury might have convinced Leeds to bring in two.
Chatzidiakos, judging by the stats and both his form and consistency last season, looks to be a real bargain at the figures discussed. Even if Leeds went to the latter stage of the price range Alkmaar want. Feels like a big week.
