25-year-old Leeds wanted has now scored more goals than Joel Piroe and Crysencio Summerville

Leeds United have been immense in the final third. We even lost Patrick Bamford on Tuesday, but his replacement came into the starting line-up and scored his 11th of the season – in Joel Piroe.

Piroe has been in and out of games and shown glimpses of quality, his ice-cool ability to block out the pressure and find the back of the net. But the Dutch star does sometimes go missing, and a bit quiet.

His fellow countryman, Crysencio Summerville, also scored on Tuesday night. The Dutch winger netting his 16th of the season, with a cut inside and a deflected effort that flew past Carl Rushworth in the net.

Our two top scorers, with Dan James on 10, Georginio Rutter on six and Patrick Bamford, Willy Gnonto and Pascal Struijk all on five. Our two Dutch attackers have scored a combined 27 goals. Impressive.

But, not quite as impressive as Viktor Gyokeres. On Thursday night, the Sweden striker scored his 28th goal of the season from the spot – a 3-1 away win over Swiss side Young Boys, in the Europa League.

Gyokeres, 25, was a target for Leeds last summer – but he chose to move to Sporting and is now being rated at north of £70m. He has been absolutely sensational for Ruben Amorim’s men. 11 assists, too.

He would have been a sensational signing for Leeds but realistically, he had outgrown the Championship and needed a move to a big club like Sporting – to give him that springboard to join a European giant.

This summer, that looks likely, with Chelsea among those interested. In what is no criticism of Piroe and Summerville, but more a compliment to Gyokeres – he now has more goals than our duo, combined.
