Sunderland’s defence was excellent on Tuesday as the Black Cats picked up a 1-0 win over Leeds United, and Trai Hume provided the perfect audition in front of Daniel Farke – amid recent reports.

Jobe Bellingham scored the only goal of the game as Sunderland produced a solid display, enough to beat Leeds on Tuesday night at the Stadium of Light. But the Black Cats defence was absolutely super.

Indeed, it was summed up when Northern Ireland star Hume cleared Joel Piroe‘s late shot at goal off the line. The Sunderland Echo gave Hume a rating of 8/10, labelling his performance as “crucial” to the win.

WhoScored gave him the best rating last night, a 7.89. Four tackles, four interceptions, three clearances. Two blocks, completing 22 of his 26 attempted passes. A truly stunning performance from the defender.

Team Talk said recently that Leeds, Leicester and Burnley are all eyeing a move to sign Hume. If Leeds are intent on a move for Hume, then he gave the perfect audition on Tuesday night in front of Farke.

Leeds may need a right-back, come the end of the season. Archie Gray is excelling, but he is naturally a midfielder. Luke Ayling, Sam Byram, Stuart Dallas and Jamie Shackleton see their deals expire in June.

Djed Spence is only on loan and whether a permanent deal will be explored, remains to be seen. Leeds will need a long-term solution on the right of defence and Hume would be a wonderful player to sign.

Hume is a proven player at this level and judging by his display on Tuesday night, has the tools to come straight in at Leeds and shine. Sunderland will not want to sell, but Tuesday will have enticed Farke.
