Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto is sceptical on a move to Everton this summer.

That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report that Gnonto’s interest in joining the Toffees is doubtful given the likelihood of them being in another relegation battle.

As per the report, it is also uncertain how much Everton will have to spend this summer amid their ongoing uncertainty at board level, which could well price them out of a move anyway.

Leeds are said to be ‘anticipating approaches’ for Gnonto this summer but with four years left on his deal and no relegation release clause, are in a strong position to either keep him, or sell him for a huge fee.

In any case San Francisco 49ers Enterprises remain hopeful of keeping Gnonto at Elland Road, who is due to report back for pre-season on Monday after being granted an extra week off.

Gnonto sceptical on move to Everton

Reports from the Italian press had indicated Everton had seen a bid of around £18.8 million accepted by Leeds for Gnonto, with a move on the verge of completion.

Those claims were quickly debunked by iNews reporter Mark Douglas, who echoed the YEP’s claims in the fact Everton may well be unable to meet Leeds’ valuation.

That sort of price tag always seemed very much on the low side, particularly given the noise that has come out from Leeds in regard to their desire to keep him.

Gnonto would undoubtedly be a huge asset in the Championship if Leeds were to retain his services beyond this summer.

He has already shown his quality against second tier defences during the FA Cup tie with Cardiff City in January, where he netted two stunning goals in a 5-2 win.
