Nat Phillips is among the players to have travelled to Germany with the Liverpool squad despite reports linking the defender with Leeds United – but he was missing from Liverpool’s draw with Greuther Furth on Monday afternoon.
Phillips, 26, endured a difficult season last term. He managed just five outings, sitting behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate. Phil Hay said that Leeds were keen on Phillips, but he would cost £10m.
He continues to be linked with Leeds, remaining on our radar – and perhaps, a move is likely to be forthcoming with Max Wober set for Gladbach on loan. Liverpool faced second-tier German side Furth away from home, drawing 4-4.
That is despite the inclusion of numerous first-team stars. Apart from a couple of youngsters, it was first choice to begin with. The second side, named at half-time, was filled with more young players – and those on the fringes.

Phillips has travelled to Germany but was missing from their first friendly, a win over Karlsuher in a 4-2 win and then on Monday, a 4-4 draw with Furth. So, a possible sign that Liverpool are holding Phillips back from pulling on a shirt.
That, or of course, Phillips has picked up an injury and has travelled to continue working with the players to get the best of the issue. It’s unknown why he’s not been used – given there are a whole host of youngsters on the bench.
Phillips is likely to want to go, and the Reds are likely to sell him for a fee of £10m. With Leeds losing a defender in Wober and Liverpool not including him in the side to face Furth – it is a possible sign he could end up in Yorkshire.
