Leeds United star told he’s been Daniel Farke’s best player for weeks after Man United draw

It says everything about how far Leeds United have come of late that a draw with Manchester United feels so underwhelming for Daniel Farke’s side.

Leeds continued their unbeaten run with Brenden Aaronson‘s second-half goal quickly being cancelled out by Matheus Cunha. Neither Sebastiaan Bornauw nor Lucas Perri covered themselves in glory for the equaliser.

Daniel Farke’s men are now unbeaten in their last seven games in the Premier League. The high points, of course, were the victories against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Several players have found another gear in that run. Jaka Bijol, Anton Stach, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all made significant contributions in recent weeks.

But there is arguably another player in the Leeds ranks who has been even more impressive.

Leeds United’s standout player in recent weeks has been lauded

Aaronson scored only his second league goal of the season to give the Whites the lead on Sunday. But it felt like a reward for his tenacity with the American seemingly having no right to win the ball as he did.

And speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, Aidy White claimed that Aaronson has been Leeds’ standout performer in recent weeks.

“I think he’s been man of the match on a few occasions over the last five or six games,” he said.

“Earlier in the season, there were a lot of questions over why he’s playing in that 4-3-3 formation. I don’t think it suits him because he’s isolated out there on the right. This new 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 suits him that little bit more. He’s got more bodies around him. It’s more natural. He can drift inside and his work-rate is definitely a positive in that role. You could see he can stretch teams.

“Today he got in behind them and his decision making in certain circumstances improves. I still think there’s more to come from him. You never stop learning. You never stop growing as a player. He’s at an age where he can still improve as well. It’s great to see no matter how much criticism he’s come under, he’s managed to deal with that and still put in a shift.”

Brenden Aaronson well on his way to silencing his doubters with best run in a Leeds shirt

Much like Farke himself, it really felt like the writing was on the wall for Aaronson after Leeds’ loss against Aston Villa in November.

But the change of system has made such a difference to the 25-year-old. He is playing with a lot of confidence right now, and is potentially one of the first names on the team sheet currently.

Brenden Aaronson was immense once again 🔥

Aaronson deserves enormous credit for fighting his way back from the brink.

It is too soon to say whether he will be able to silence all of his doubters. But there is no question that he is well on his way.
