Leeds United take on Newcastle United in their third fixture of the 2025-26 Premier League season this weekend.
It’s been a tough week for Leeds United, who were humbled 5-0 by Arsenal before being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by a depleted Sheffield Wednesday.
To rub salt into the wounds, Chelsea swooped in to sign Facundo Buonanotte ahead of Leeds on Friday, meaning they still haven’t got a playmaker just days before the transfer window shuts.
Things aren’t getting much easier, either, as Newcastle United are next up for Daniel Farke’s side, though the Magpies aren’t without their own problems.

Leeds United team news for Newcastle United fixture
Both teams go into the game with crucial players doubtful or simply unavailable.
Leeds know they will be missing crucial midfield duo Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu, which could mean Sean Longstaff starts in a quick reunion with his former club.
New signing Noah Okafor is also a ‘major doubt’ after suffering a groin issue in the defeat to Wednesday.
Newcastle, meanwhile, will be without the injured, all-action midfielder Joelinton, the suspended Anthony Gordon and wantaway striker Alexander Isak, who is refusing to play for Eddie Howe’s side.
Fabian Schar is available despite suffering a concussion in their loss to Liverpool on Monday, while Sandro Tonali is battling to be fit after also going off injured in the game.
Newcastle have not secured incoming record signing Nick Woltemade in time to play him against Leeds.

Prediction
Newcastle will certainly be a difficult game for Leeds, especially with how they played despite being down to 10 men against Liverpool.
However, they are missing a huge physical presence in Joelinton, who would have come in handy inside the bear pit of Elland Road, and are lacking in attacking options without Gordon.
William Osula may have scored on Monday but he’s still raw and not a huge threat up front. If they’re also without Tonali, then it’s a huge chance for Leeds to take advantage.
Prediction: Leeds 1-1 Newcastle
