Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suddenly burst into life at Leeds.
Despite netting just one goal in his first ten Premier League appearances, the Leeds No.9 now sits on seven goals after remarkably scoring six in his last five outings.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has dragged Daniel Farke six points clear of the relegation zone thanks to his stunning goalscoring streak, and has also made a bit of Leeds history in doing so.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin becomes first Leeds United player ever to score in five consecutive Premier League appearances in debut campaign
After bagging twice in the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace, the man from Sheffield has now become the first and only Leeds player to score in five consecutive Premier League appearances in their debut season, as revealed by Jonny Cooper of Opta.
This was Daniel Farke’s best performance as Leeds manager – Prove me wrong! 💪
Palace had no answers for Farke's 'hybrid' system. Relive it all here!
Even before the Premier League started in 1992, only one Leeds player had ever managed to achieve that feat in their first season with the Whites – John McCole in the 1959/60 campaign.
It is a quite stunning achievement from Calvert-Lewin, even more so when you consider he arrived on a free transfer back in August to little fanfare.
A woeful debut against Sheffield Wednesday also had supporters concerned he would be a failure, so it is testament to the 28-year-old that he has managed to hit such a rich vein of form.
Daniel Farke needs to wrap Dominic Calvert-Lewin in cotton wool
If Leeds can keep Calvert-Lewin fit, he is showing enough to suggest he could well secure survival almost singlehandedly with his goals.
However, there is a significant question mark over his fitness.
Answer this: Leeds United will finish in ___th place if Dominic Calvert-Lewin stays fit 📊
Six goals in five for the big man!
Fortunately, the Leeds talisman has managed to avoid any injuries this season, but his medical record makes for a concerning read.
As you can see, Calvert-Lewin is clearly prone to injuries, so it is imperative for Farke to keep a close eye on his No.9 and regularly check in with him about his fitness.
Seeing as Lukas Nmecha is also prone to an injury, Leeds have to take especially good care of their strikers, with plenty of work still to do in the relegation battle despite a run of four games unbeaten.
