Leeds United talent plays key role in 5-0 win for country last night, big step towards qualifying

Plenty of Leeds United players were in action on Tuesday night as the international break comes to a close and one player helped his country take a massive step towards qualification, winning 5-0.

Wilfried Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson, Mateo Joseph, Ao Tanaka and Junior Firpo all featured in the last 24 hours. It was a successful night, only Aaronson failing to win of those five, drawing with New Zealand.

With a lunchtime clash against Burnley next up on Saturday at Elland Road, Daniel Farke will be keen for his Leeds players to return as soon as possible. Scott Parker’s side are likely to be a promotion rival.

But they were not the only Leeds players in action, as a 20-year-old talent played 90 minutes on Tuesday night and helped his country produce a massive 5-0 win and take a big leap towards qualification.

Leeds gem Jeremiah Mullen plays key role in crucial Scotland win

The “brilliant” 20-year-old was handed his 11th cap for Scotland’s U21 side on Tuesday night having played 75 minutes against Joseph’s Spain U21 side last week, in which Joseph scored the winner.

On Tuesday night, Scotland’s U21 side smashed Malta 5-0 away from home. Mothwell midfielder Lennon Miller was the star of the show, laying on two assists and scoring a goal himself from central midfield.

Mullen, who is capable of playing right-back as he did against Spain, lined up at centre-back and helped his side keep a clean sheet against Malta. A crucial win as Scotland’s U21’s close in on qualification.

Mullen could be playing in next summer’s Euro U21 tournament

Spain’s win over Scotland last week has seen Joseph’s side qualify in top spot of a six-nation group and qualify for next summer’s Euro U21 tournament in Slovakia without the need for a play-off to qualify.

Second spot remains up for grabs and Scotland needed to win to leapfrog Belgium into second and they did just. But in winning by five goals and with Scotland and Belgium on equal points, goals are now key.

Mullen’s side winning 5-0 hands Scotland a real chance of qualification, or at least qualifying for a play-off in second, with two games left to play. It could mean that the Leeds talent flies to Slovakia next summer.
