All you need to know about Leeds United squad numbers for the 2024/25 season.

Though many might just see them as meaningless digits, squad numbers mean a hell of a lot to footballers.

Whether players want an iconic number to match their position or an unusual one for sentimental reasons, there’s always a clamour amongst first-team squads for jerseys.

It’s no different at Leeds United, with several members of Daniel Farke’s side swapping their squad numbers in the summer of 2024.

Leeds have a fairly big squad so plenty of numbers are accounted for but there are still some jerseys up for grabs for any potentially signings in the January transfer window.

Everything you need to know about the club’s squad number history and the current 2024/25 squad numbers is below.

1 – Illan Meslier

Previously worn by: Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Andy Lonergan, Rob Green, Marco Silvestri, Paddy Kenny, Neil Sullivan, Paul Robinson, Nigel Martyn, David Harvey.

First choice goalkeeper Illan Meslier has worn the No.1 shirt since joining the club in 2019.

2 – Jayden Bogle

Previously worn by: Luke Ayling, Sam Byram, Lee Peltier, Scott Sellars, Steve Hodge, Neil Aspin, Denis Irwin, Trevor Cherry, Byron Stevenson.

Jayden Bogle picked up the No.2 shirt vacated by Luke Ayling when he joined the club in the summer of 2024.

3 – Junior Firpo

Previously worn by: Barry Douglas, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Sol Bamba, Stephen Warnock, Patrick Kisnorbo, Stephen Cairney, Ian Harte, Tony Dorigo, Terry Cooper.

With No.2 fittingly going to a right-back, Leeds have upheld tradition by giving left-back Junior Firpo the No.3 shirt.

4 – Ethan Ampadu

Previously worn by: Adam Forshaw, Toumani Diagouraga, Scott Wootton, Rodolph Austin, Tom Lees, Alex Bruce, Jonathan Douglas, Clarke Carlisle, Jody Morris, Olivier Dacourt, Alf-Inge Haaland, Carlton Palmer, David Batty, Brian Flynn, Mick Bates.

Club captain Ethan Ampadu has worn No.4 since joining the club from Chelsea in 2022.

5 – Pascal Struijk

Previously worn by: Robin Koch, Ben White, Matthew Pennington, Kyle Bartley, Giuseppe Bellusci, Jason Pearce, Andrew O’Brien, Neill Collins, Rui Marques, Lucas Radebe, Lucas Radebe, John Pemberton, Paul Hart, Gordon McQueen.

Pascal Struijk has had a few numbers in his years at Elland Road, with No.50, No.34 and No.21. He took over No.5 from Charlie Cresswell last summer.

6 – Joe Rodon

Previously worn by: Liam Cooper, Granddi N’Goyi, Luke Murphy, Robbie Rogers, Richard Naylor, Lubomir Michalik, Matt Heath, Alan Thompson, Paul Butler, Zoumana Camara, Jonathan Woodgate, David Wetherall, David O’Leary, Chris Whyte, Norman Hunter.

Club hero Liam Cooper wore the No.6 for eight years but after his departure in 2024, Joe Rodon picked up the digit after wearing No.14 during his loan stint the previous season.

7 – Daniel James

Previously worn by: Joel Piroe, Brenden Aaronson, Ian Poved), Kemar Roofe, Mirco Antenucci, Paul Green, Max Gradel, David Prutton, Nick Barmby, Robbie Keane, Lee Sharpe, Philemon Masinga, Andy Gray, Eric Cantona, Gordon Strachan, Eddie Gray, Derek Parlane, Kevin Hird, Frank Gray, Carl Harris, Trevor Cherry, Duncan McKenzie.

Dan James is another player who got a number upgrade in the summer, swapping the No.20 for No.7 after Joel Piroe gave it up.

8 – Joe Rothwell

Previously worn by: Glen Kamara, Marc Roca, Vurnon Anita, Luke Murphy, Billy Sharp, Rodolph Austin, Michael Brown, Neil Kilkenny, Alan Thompson, Tore Andre Flo, Sean Gregan, Michael Bridges, Tony Yeboah, Rod Wallace, John Sheridan, Allan Clarke.

Joe Rothwell was handed No.8 upon his arrival on loan from Bournemouth, taking it over from Glen Kamara.

9 – Patrick Bamford

Previously worn by: Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Chris Wood, Adryan, Matt Smith, Conor Wickham, Dexter Blackstock, Steve Morison, Billy Paynter, Jermain Beckford, David Healy, Brett Ormerod, Mark Viduka, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ian Rush, Brian Deane, Lee Chapman, Frank Worthington.

Striker Patrick Bamford has worn the No.9 for Leeds since 2018.

10 – Joel Piroe

Previously worn by: Crysencio Summmerville, Raphinha, Ezgjan Alioski, Marcus Antonsson, Noel Hunt, Luciano Becchio, Leon Constantine, Rob Hulse, Michael Ricketts, Lamne Sakho, Harry Kewell, Gary McAllister, Peter Lorimer, Tony Currie.

After Crysencio Summerville move to West Ham left the No.10 vacant, Piroe opted to take up the jersey.

11 – Brenden Aaronson

Previously worn by: Jack Harrison, Tyler Roberts, Jay-Roy Grot, Souleymane Doukara, Aidy White, Luke Varney, Lloyd Sam, Ian Westlake, Jermaine Pennant, Raul Bravo, Lee Bowyer, Gary Speed, Glynn Snodin, Arthur Graham.

Brenden Aaronson is yet another Leeds star to change his number in the summer, going from No.7 to No.11.

Previously worn by: Jaidon Anthony, Tyler Adams, Laurens De Bock, Gaetano Berardi, Paul Rachubka, Robbie Elliott, Danny Pugh, Roque Junior, Darren Huckerby, David Hopkin.

The No.12 has been worn in the last two seasons but is currently free for the taking.

Other than Mike Grella, the No.13 has almost always been assigned to goalkeepers at Leeds United but it’s currently vacant.

14 – Manor Solomon

Previously worn by: Joe Rodon, Jamie Shackleton, Diego Llorente, Eddie Nketiah, Samu Saiz, Tommaso Bianchi, Adam Smith, Jonny Howson, Steve Stone, Marlon King, Andy Gray, Tomas Brolin.

Forward Mano Solomon was given No.14 upon completing his loan switch from Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

Leeds legend Stuart Dallas wore No.15 with distinction for eight years before he retired from the same in the summer. His old number is currently free.

The No.17 has often been worn by exciting wingers at Leeds and Largie Ramazani is the latest after joining the club in the summer.

Raphina and Pontus Jansson are among the most notable former No.18s, a number that currently doesn’t have a wearer.

19 – Mateo Joseph

Previously worn by: Sam Greenwood, Rodrigo, Pablo Hernandez, Lee Erwin, Steve Morison, David Norris, Ben Parker, Tore Andre Flo.

Rodrigo and Pablo Hernandez are two famous Leeds No.19s and it’s now being worn by yet another Spaniard in Mateo Joseph.

James wore the No.20 last season before moving up to No.7. Ross Barkley and Matt Smith also used to wear the digit.

21 – Alex Cairns

Previously worn by: Pascal Struijk, Samu Saiz, Charlie Taylor, El-Hadji Diouf, Alex McCarthy, Adam Smith, Fede Bessone, Shane Lowry, Enoch Showunmi, Shaun Derry.

Back-up goalkeeper Alex Cairns took No.21 in the summer, a number previously worn by the likes of El-Hadji Diouf, Charlie Taylor and Shaun Derry.

22 – Ao Tanaka

Previously worn by: Archie Gray, Joel Robles Goalkeepers, Jack Harrison, Pawel Cibicki, Ross Turnbull, Zac Thompson, Scott Wootton, Habib Habibou, Robbie Rogers.

Ao Tanaka is already a firm favourite at Elland Road after signing just this past summer and taking No.22. He took the number from the departed Archie Gray.

23 – Josuha Guilavogui

Previously worn by: Luis Sinisterra, Kalvin Phillips, Lewis Cook, Zac Thompson, Robert Snodgrass.

Leeds started the season without a No.23 but free agent arrival Josuha Guilavogui took the shirt upon signing. The number has a good pedigree at the club.

Previously worn by: Georginio Rutter, Leif Davis, Hadi Sacko, Tom Adeyemi, Chris Dawson, Marius Zaliuka.

Georginio Rutter, started the season as No.24 but his late departure for Brighton has left it available.

25 – Sam Byram

Previously worn by: Rasmus Kristensen, Elia Caprile, Ronaldo Vieira, Will Buckley, Ross Killock, Danny Webber, Fabian Delph, Barry Bannan.

Sam Byram reclaimed the No.25 shirt he wore during his first stint at Leeds when he returned to Yorkshire in 2023.

26 – Karl Darlow

Previously worn by: Lewis Bate, Liam Bridcutt, Brian Montenegro, Dominic Poleon, Leigh Bromby, Ben Parker, Matthew Kilgallon.

Karl Darlow swapped No.28 for No.26 in the summer.

Star forward Willy Gnonto is the Leeds No.29 after taking the number in 2022.

30 – Joe Gelhardt

Previously worn by: Kamil Miazek, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Charlie Horton, Alex Cairns, Jack Butland.

Though a number usually worn by goalkeepers at Leeds, strike Joe Gelhardt currently holds the jersey.

33 – Isaac Schmidt

Previously worn by: Connor Roberts, Leo Fuhr Hjelde, Bryce Hosannah, Kiko Casilla, Tyler Denton, Paul Robinson, Ramon Nunez.

Isaac Schmidt has worn No. 33 throughout his career and snapped it up after signing for Leeds in 2024.

39 – Max Wober

Previously worn by: Djed Spence, Stuart McKinstry, Ryan Edmondson, Anthony Elding.

Max Wober was handed the No.39 shirt upon joining the club in 2022, though Djed Spence wore it last season when the centre-back returned to Germany on loan.

44 – Ilia Gruev

Previously worn by: Mateusz Bogusz, Hugo Diaz, Ross McCormack.

No.42 is synonymous with Ross McCormack at Leeds and it’s now worn by Ilia Gruev.

50 – Charlie Crew

Previously worn by: Pascal Struijk.

Young midfielder Charlie Crew has been given No.50 upon breaking into the first-team squad.

Numbers 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37 and 38 are also free.
