Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Lovro Majer in the coming months, however, they face competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs – but his recent comparison will excite Leeds supporters.
Italian website CalcioMercato claim that Majer, 22, has been identified by Leeds as the possible solution to their lack of attacking midfielder. The Whites tried to sign Michael Cuisance in the summer, only for a medical to fall through.
The report states that Leeds are not alone in their interest. Indeed, it is believed that Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina, Sevilla and Valencia are also keen one the one-time Croatia international. His reputation is certainly eye-catching.
He has already played 47 times for Zagreb’s senior side, having a hand in 16 goals from midfield. A report from earlier on in the summer, as per Sportske Novosti, claims that interested parties could get him for a bargain £5.5million.
But it is the player’s comparision that will excite Leeds fans. CalcioMercato describe him as the ‘new Luka Modric’ – Real Madrid’s £30million (BBC) veteran that won the Ballon d’Or in 2018 after Croatia reached the World Cup final.
If Majer could be half the player Modric has turned out to be, then Leeds would be nabbing themselves a bargain at just £5.5million. Whether it is just because they are both Croatian and play in the same position, though, must be considered.
