Leeds United duo Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson are likely to start for the United States when they take on England at the Qatar World Cup – and Wayne Rooney has given his verdict on their chances of beating England.
Adams and Aaronson were named in the US squad this week, although it was hardly a surprise. The two Leeds midfielders are two key players in Gregg Berhalter’s side. Obviously, they are in the same group as England.
Indeed, USA will be confident of a second-place finish in the group behind favourites England. Wales will want to challenge them for second place, while Iran have an outside chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
They take on Wales on November 21 in their first game, before facing Gareth Southgate’s England on November 25. Rooney, who is managing in the United States with DC United at the moment, was asked if USA could beat England.
He did not rule a possible win for the likes of Adams and Aaronson. He told TalkSPORT on Friday morning (9.25AM) he expects the USA to play out from the back and try to beat England – rather than sit back and aim for a draw.

“They’ll have a go. They’ll take the ball, try and play out from the back. The USA will 100% try to win. They have a lot of experience. A lot of the squad is in Europe. They’ll be fit, a good coach. They’ll take it to England,” Rooney said.

They have an outside chance. The US come into the World Cup after a run of poor results. Just one win in their last five, beating El Salvador 5-0 – but losing to Japan and drawing with Uruguay, El Salvador and Saudi Arabia.
The US have some excellent players – such as Adams and Aaronson. Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic, AC Milan’s Sergino Dest and Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner. But England are easy favourites and should cruise past them.
