With pre-season fixtures now fully underway, the work has not stopped for Victor Orta at Leeds United. More depth in the middle of the park is needed. But also, Orta has plenty of work to do when it comes to offering players new Leeds contracts. Two updates have emerged on Tuesday.
One involves an Under-23 mainstay from last season’s title-winning side, while another sees a target’s price tag reduced by £8.5million:
Report says Under-23 star signs Leeds deal
TuttoMercatoWeb claim that there is a new contract announcement on the horizon at Elland Road. The report says that Elia Caprile, 19, has penned a new deal at Leeds until the summer of 2024. The former Chievo stopper was a crucial part of Mark Jackson’s side as the Whites won PL2’s second tier.
Clocking up 18 of the club’s 24 league fixtures last season, Caprile conceded just 24 goals throughout – a decent tally at that level. He also clocked up five clean sheets for Leeds. With Kiko Casilla leaving and Kristoffer Klaesson joining, he remains third choice – but clearly, Leeds want him to stay.
Cunha boost as Leeds battle Zenit, Monaco
Initial reports said Leeds would have to pay Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin for a whopping £30million, according to The Express. But a new report from TMW says different. It is now claimed that interested parties will have to spend just £21.5million to get 22-year-old sensation Cunha this summer.
A saving of £8.5million, then. However, Leeds are not the only side interested in signing Brazil’s 2020 Olympics star. Cunha is also a target for Russian outfit Zenit, and French side Monaco. But Leeds are well-positioned, with Cunha himself even suggesting he wants to join Leeds.
Caprile is staying at Leeds, and Cunha could join him, then.
