Tottenham player raves about 'energetic' Leeds star, he has 'stood out' since joining

Tottenham defender Matt Doherty has told his club’s website that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has “stood out” since joining the club from RB Leipzig – and picked him as a player to watch from today’s World Cup fixtures.

Adams, 23, has been named USA captain ahead of his country’s opener against Wales. USA and Wales take to the field in what is the third game of the day and the fourth at the World Cup. In the same group, England beat Iran to win 6-2.

Costing just £20million, Leeds brought in Adams and Marc Roca for a combined £30million. This, after selling Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City for £45million. The combination of American and Spain has certainly replaced Phillips.

Indeed, it is not only Leeds fans that he is impressing. His performances have caught the admiration of Tottenham star Doherty. He picked Adams as the one to watch from Monday’s World Cup fixtures, labelling Adams as “energetic”.

“Obviously, Spurs players aside, I would say Tyler Adams, USA. I’ve been quite impressed with him since he came into the Premier League at Leeds. I thought he played well against us last time out, okay, he got sent off at the end.

“But every time I’ve watched him play for Leeds he’s looked energetic, competitive, good quality on the ball – a player who has stood out for me,” Doherty said on USA skipper Adams, when speaking to Tottenham’s website.

Tottenham defender Doherty: Leeds midfielder Adams has stood out

Adams has arguably been our best player. We picked him as our second-best so far this season, behind Rodrigo. Purely because, the Spain international has nine goals – scoring five goals in his last four. A brace against Doherty’s Spurs.

But Adams has stood out. That is because of his engine, his aggression, his ability and the connection he has already garnered with the Leeds fans. He is the kind of player that Leeds fans can relate to. A future captain, for the Whites.
