Leeds United’s Under-23 side suffered their first defeat of 2019 to Sheffield Wednesday – but here are the three biggest winners.
Izzy Brown
Brown is nearing his senior Leeds debut and another strong performance during the first half of the loss to Wednesday will improve his chances of appearing against Swansea.
Kemar Roofe is expected to play in attacking midfield, but Brown may come off the bench to finally make his senior debut.
Alfie McCalmont
McCalmont has been in strong form for the second string, sitting at the base of the Leeds midfield. He impressed once again, showing plenty of passion and intelligence at the base of the midfield.
With Adam Forshaw injured, Kalvin Phillips has little cover at the base of the midfield. His increasingly impressive performances could tempt Marcelo Bielsa.
Bryce Hosannah
Luke Ayling’s form in the senior side has been questionable, while Hosannah was in excellent form against Wednesday. His attacking runs from right-back gave Leeds a chance.
However, Leeds were unable to equalise after Alex Hunt put Wednesday in the lead.
