Leeds’ Under-23 side earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Crewe on Monday afternoon, thanks to a brace from Izzy Brown.
Carlos Corberan included a number of first-team stars in his side. Kalvin Phillips captained the side, while Brown, Aapo Halme, Will Huffer, Leif Davis, Tom Pearce, Jamie Shackleton and more all featured.
Plenty impressed at Leeds’ training ground, but here are the three big winners from the win:
Izzy Brown
Undoubtedly Brown’s best performance as he continues his comeback from injury. His match sharpness is back, and his two finishes showed just why Leeds brought him to Elland Road in the summer.
With Leeds taking on Stoke on Saturday, it will be interesting to see if Marcelo Bielsa decides to include him. On this basis, Brown is ready and would be a welcome addition to our squad.
Robbie Gotts
Though 19-year-old Gotts only entered the fray with about 20 minutes left, he created more than most from the off. Naturally a defender, Gotts also showed his versatility by playing off the striker.
MORE LEEDS STORIES
He was unlucky not to score, stinging the hands of the Crewe goalkeeper on two occasions. Plenty to come from the teen, who is looking to land himself a new contract with his current deal expiring in the summer.
Will Huffer
LUTV’s coverage of the Under-23 matches has picked up the odd unusual noise in the background. The barking of a dog, the Spanish instructions of Corberan and on Monday, it was Huffer’s commanding presence.
The goalkeeper, who made his debut earlier in the season in a 2-0 win over Bristol City, was heard screaming at his defence and commanding his penalty area. Another excellent clean sheet for the England youth international.
