The left-back situation: Gjanni Alioski's apparent Leeds exit, and the imminent arrival of Junior Firpo

The left-back position is likely to be the main focus of Leeds United’s transfer activity over the next few days. Junior Firpo is said to be on his way from Barcelona in a deal worth well over £10million, while Gjanni Alioski is technically no longer a Leeds United player.

Here is the latest on Alioski, and Firpo joining Leeds:

Alioski to reunite with… Caleb Ekuban?

Yep, that’s right. Turkish newspaper Fotomac have claimed on the day in which Alioski technically becomes a free agent – that he has an offer on the table from Trabzonspor. Of course, Ekuban has revitalised his career with Trabzonspor since joining from Leeds – becoming a Ghana international.

Fotomac say that Alioski has an offer of £20,000 a week with the Turkish side – while Besiktas and Galatasaray are also keen. Trabzonspor, who have also signed Marek Hamsik and Gervinho, are willing to pay a signing-on fee of Alioski £430,000. Of course, he is no longer under contract at Leeds.

When is Firpo signing?

Well, a report from Mundo Deportivo on Thursday claims that they have heard the same from both Leeds and Barcelona sources. Reports claim a move could take place in the next three-and-a-bit days – before the end of the week. Firpo will cost between £13million and £15.5million.

The defender has chosen to join Leeds over AC Milan – with claims suggesting that Milan only wanted him initially on loan. A portion of that transfer fee is due to go to former side Real Betis, thanks to a clause in the deal that took him to Barcelona. A few days, potentially.
