The left-back saga continues. Leeds remains on the lookout for a left-sided defender. Patrick van Aanholt, Romain Perraud, Maxwel Cornet and others have been linked with a move. Now, Mundo Deportivo claim Leeds are leading La Liga winners Atletico Madrid in the chase for Javi Galan.

Galan, 26, has been in sensational form for Huesca over the past 12 months. While Huesca have been relegated from La Liga, Galan has emerged as a shining light in the Spanish side’s team. His form was so impressive that he was even named in WhoScored’s Team of the Season.

Able to play at left-back or left-wing, his left-foot is incredible. That is, whether it is from a set-piece, whipping a ball into a box or producing a cross-field pass. His goal against Real Madrid was sensational. So, it will come as a surprise that his release clause is just £3.5million.

Leeds transfer news: Atletico Madrid also want Galan

That is, according to Mundo Deportivo. What is unsurprising is that Leeds are not the only club keen on signing Galan. But not many might have predicted the size of the club that are battling Leeds in the race for Galan’s signature. Atletico Madrid, the La Liga winners, want to sign Galan.

But the report also claims that Leeds are winning the race for the left-sided defender. Why? Perhaps it is because Renan Lodi is first choice at Atleti and Galan would probably only provide cover – while Galan will be first choice at Leeds. Time will tell if a deal gets over the line.

It comes after Galan was previously reported as to have packed his bags over a transfer to Leeds – that news, might have been a bit premature,
