Paul Merson has told SportsKeeda that Leeds United are a “bit dull” at the moment and have not played very well this season under Jesse Marsch – predicting they will play out a 1-1 draw against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa on Sunday.

Leeds come into the game after a month without playing a Premier League fixture. Games against Manchester United and Forest were postponed due to the death of Her Majesty the Queen. Then, the international break kicked in.

Now, Leeds are back in action on Sunday [October 2], having last played out a disappointing 5-2 loss to Brentford on September 3. They play host to a struggling Villa side that have seven points from seven. Leeds have eight from six.

Merson gave his prediction in his column with SportsKeeda. He predicts Leeds and Villa will play out a 1-1 draw at Elland Road, while also suggesting that Leeds have been “dull” and claiming neither side have played well so far.

“Leeds are a bit dull at the moment, and this is a big game for them. If they lose this game, their good start goes out the window. Neither team has played particularly well so far this season,” Merson said, predicting a 1-1 draw.

Leeds will be looking at the fixture as a chance to pick up three points. Since the pre-season friendly in Australia, a close-fought game in which Leeds had an issue at left-back and lacked cohesion, given the number of new signings.

Villa have since lost Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos. Leeds will fancy themselves. Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Luis Sinisterra are fit. Have Leeds been “dull”? No. Even with a loss, Leeds have been exciting.

They have outscored 11 other Premier League teams including Manchester United and Chelsea. They have also conceded more goals than 12 other teams – although half of the 10 came against Brentford. Exciting, without doubt.

Here is how we think Leeds will line-up against Aston Villa – with Marsch potentially making three changes.
