Leeds fans probably thought that they could not love Marcelo Bielsa more before Wednesday. No manager has captured the imagination at Elland Road like this for a long time.
Understandably, it took just two hours for Whites fans to go into meltdown when news of a press conference being called emerged yesterday. Bielsa’s track record made a resignation seem like a real possibility.
Luckily, what followed did not involve Bielsa walking away. And somehow, Bielsa has managed to make Leeds fans fall in love with him even more.
The press conference became a 70 minute presentation that unmasked just how much work the meticulous Bielsa does before every game.
It seems impossible to think of another manager who would provide such an incredible insight.
And given that it is easy to draw comparisons between Bielsa’s presentation and Don Revie’s famous dossiers, it is no surprise that the Argentinian has caught the supporters’ hearts.
Revie’s dossiers may have frustrated some of his players as time went on. But they were a key part of his success during the best spell in the club’s history.
And after Wednesday, it is clear that Bielsa’s scouting is just as important to the current team’s progress.
We didn’t need further proof that Bielsa was special. But thank goodness we got it.
