It was reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post this week that some close to Kemar Roofe fear that Leeds will not offer the terms he is looking for as the two parties look to enter contract negotiations.
Roofe has been superb this season. The 25-year-old has scored seven goals in just 10 Championship appearances and is now in line for fresh terms at Elland Road.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that he is out of contract in 2020 and one of the lower earners amongst the squad. But while Leeds are confident that fresh talks will end successfully, some in Roofe’s camp are concerned.
The striker’s form this season has been good enough to warrant Roofe becoming one of the top-earners. But perhaps he could take one giant step towards getting the deal he wants on Saturday.
Leeds travel to West Brom looking to ensure that they go into the international break top of the table. The Baggies are the highest scorers in the division, so the Whites can expect a serious test.
Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle have formed a lethal partnership this season. With the pair arguably Premier League-calibre forwards, it is likely that they are earning wages rarely seen in the second tier.
So if Roofe can outshine the pair at The Hawthorns – his old stomping ground – and guide Leeds to a win, then the Whites will be given one additional reason to make sure that they improve their top goalscorer’s terms considerably.
