Jesse Marsch must take action on Leeds star Brenden Aaronson after USA display

Brenden Aaronson struggled for USA overnight – the new Leeds star was hooked at half-time during a 1-1 draw with El Salvador and Jesse Marsch must take action. The first pre-season fixture is less than a month away.

Aaronson, 21, earned his 22nd cap in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Starting in midfield, he was hooked at half-time during the Nations League match with El Salvador winning 1-0. The game ended 1-1.

CBS Sports said Aaronson “struggled”, handing the midfielder a 5/10 rating. Little surprise though, when we consider it was Aaronson’s 55th game for club and country of an action-packed 2021-22 campaign.

He played 41 times for Salzburg last season, not just in Austria – but travelling to France, Germany and Spain in the Champions League. Aaronson also had to jet off to countries like Canada, Honduras and now El Salvador.

Marsch must take action on new Leeds star Aaronson

Not so bad if based in America, but when in Europe, it takes its toll. Now, his season is finally over – but with the first pre-season game against Brisbane Roar on July 14, the likelihood is that Leeds could be back early July.

It might mean that Aaronson has three weeks to himself, before pre-season starts. His tired, lacklustre display for the US is the result of a long, demanding season. Aaronson needs a delayed period on the sidelines.

If Marsch is to get the best out of him come the start of the Premier League season, then he needs to give Aaronson at last a few more weeks off. Perhaps, telling Aaronson to meet up with the squad directly in Australia makes sense.

It is important that Aaronson makes a solid start at Leeds, with the hype surrounding the £25million signing very high. Giving him a delayed rest and the chance to recover gives Aaronson the best chance of that.
