Less than an hour after Leeds United confirmed a work permit had been awarded to Javi Gracia, the Spanish boss took his first press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – and he gave his verdict on the Elland Road atmosphere.

There were doubts as to whether Leeds would get a Visa sorted out for Gracia, even as recent as this morning. But, moments before the presser was scheduled on Friday at 12.45PM – Leeds confirmed he had received a work permit.

Gracia answered questions from the media, and will be in the dugout at Elland Road on Saturday. A huge, crucial game that will be huge come the end of the season, in the race to stave off the threat of Premier League relegation.

Asked about the famous Elland Road atmosphere, he initially interrupted a question from the reporter when being told Leeds fans are among the best supporters in the country, saying: “I know”. He continued, on the atmosphere.

“I know the atmosphere is really good and I’m looking forward to the game. I expect the supporters to play as a no.12 for us, we need them. We need to give our best from minute one, until the end,” Gracia said in his presser.

He’s right, Leeds really need the club’s fans. Southampton at Elland Road is a massive, massive game and if Leeds are to stand any chance of survival – and if Gracia is to take Leeds to safety – then a win on Saturday is pivotal.

Leeds need the fans more than ever. One of our biggest games since returning to the Premier League, anything less than a win and Leeds will be embroiled in a really dodgy place. The fans can drive Leeds and Gracia to a huge win.
