When Pablo Hernandez sustained an injury in Leeds’ 3-0 win over Norwich in August, Jack Harrison would have known that he had a fantastic opportunity.
Hernandez’s form was superb during the opening weeks of the season. And Harrison could have faced a frustrating spell had the Spaniard not picked up that problem at Carrow Road.
But nearly two months down the line, Harrison arguably goes into this weekend’s clash with Blackburn facing a huge game in his Leeds spell.
There have been flashes of brilliance. His display against Preston North End was magical at times. But he has struggled to stand out and his form has divided supporters.
Can Harrison keep Pablo out of the side?
Hernandez not featuring in Leeds’ under-23 game over the international break hints that he may not be ready to start at Ewood Park. And if that is the case, then Harrison seemingly has one game to prove that he should keep his place beyond the weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa has rewarded those who have performed well, so if Harrison shines against Blackburn, then he may well keep his spot for Wednesday’s home game against Ipswich.
While Hernandez was out, Harrison had some breathing space to stamp his authority on his position. But if the magician is back imminently, then the pressure will undoubtedly be on the Manchester City loanee this weekend.
