Eagle-eyed Leeds fans reckon they have spotted an injury boost, during Under-23 coverage on Monday

Leeds United’s Under-23 side produced a sparkling 3-0 win over Reading on Monday afternoon to go 13 points clear at the top of Premier League 2 Division 2, thanks to a brace from Stuart McKinstry and a nice team goal scored by Liam McCarron. But during LUTV’s coverage of the match, eagle-eyed Leeds fans reckon they have spotted an injured player back in training.

The Whites have had little luck with injuries of late. The 4-2 loss to Arsenal saw Kalvin Phillips miss out with a muscle problem, while three summer signings were also sidelined. Rodrigo is expected to be back soon, while Diego Llorente and Robin Koch are long-term absentees and it is expected they might be back in March. Adam Forshaw and Gaetano Berardi are also missing, as is young winger Ian Poveda – with an ankle issue.

Seven players on the sidelines, then. But over the course of the last seven days, Leeds fans have been handed some optimism. A video of Gaetano Berardi emerged on Instagram that saw him back in training after almost a year on the sidelines. Forshaw has stated he is hoping to play again this season, last featuring in September 2019. Then, a picture of Rodrigo in training was posted by the Spaniard himself on social media.

Phillips was a doubt for the 4-2 loss to Arsenal but he is expected to be fit to face Wolves, while Rodrigo could be fit. Llorente and Koch should miss out, while Forshaw and Berardi are expected to feature for the Under-23’s before we see them anywhere near the senior side – if of course they can break in. But what about Poveda?

Poveda, 21, has been in and out of the Leeds side this season – featuring regularly on the bench and getting numerous substitute appearances. He has also been a key feature in the Premier League 2 side, making six appearances this season and having a hand in three goals. But in his sixth appearance, he went over on his ankle. During LUTV’s coverage of Monday’s win, Leeds fans spotted a Poveda-like figure training in the back ground at Thorp Arch, suggesting he is back in training.
